Beautiful Bellagio
When the Bellagio opened in October 1998, it immediately became the most sought after property on the Las Vegas Strip. Built for $1.6 billion it was the most expensive casino resort ever constructed at that time.
Created by casino impresario Steve Wynn, who sold his company to MGM (now MGM MIRAGE) shortly after the Bellagio opened, the property brought a new direction to Las Vegas. For the first time ever Las Vegas had a luxury resort of uncompromised quality. Four years after opening it achieved the coveted AAA Five Diamond rating which it has held ever since.
With just under 4,000 rooms Bellagio is a bustling showplace of luxury, melding fine cuisine, art and casino gaming in an astounding package. Somehow the luxury resort is able to present the utmost in quality with a discernable lack of pretension.
The hotel features five outdoor pools, four whirlpools and 52 private cabanas; Mediterranean courtyard setting, two wedding chapels and the Terrazza di Sogno (Terrace of Dreams). In the front of the hotel is the iconic Fountains of Bellagio, located on an 8.5 acre manmade lake. The free to all show featured dancing fountains choreographed to music and lights. There are more than 1,200 dancing fountains, some of which spout water more than 460 feet in the air.
The registration area features a ceiling entirely made of glass sculptured flowers created by renowned artist Dale Chihuly.
Right after checking in, be sure to visit the Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, located just off the main lobby. It has a glass ceiling 50 feet high and more than 13,500 square feet of display place and is usually bustling with gawkers and photographers. Here displays of flora arranged in a theatrical presentation vary with each season and major holiday. Each display is planned a year in advance to ensure that the necessary flowers, plants and trees are available for the presentation.
Bellagio is also home to amazing cuisine. It’s the only hotel in the country for four consecutive years (2004-2007) with two AAA Five Diamond restaurants, Picasso and Le Cirque. Picasso features paintings by the artist throughout the entire restaurant. Celebrity chefs also call here home. Todd English has the Mediterranean outpost Olives while Michael Mina titular restaurant serves up some of the finest seafood available. Sensi and Shinatro are both AAA four star showplaces.
Cirque du Soleil also features the show ‘O’, an aquatic tapestry of artistry, surrealism and theatrical romance by world-class acrobats, synchronized swimmers and divers performed in, on and above water performed in a specially designed theater. It’s one of the most amazing spectacles anywhere in the world with a stage that transforms into a swimming pool almost instantly. It’s a must for anyone who likes theater.
Shoppes will love the 100,000 square foot retail promenade with stores such as Chanel, Giorgio Armani, Prada, Tiffany & Co., Fred Leighton, Bottega Veneta, Yves Saint Laurent, Hermès, Gucci, Dior and Fendi.
If you want to party till dawn, Light Nightclub is an elegant, sexy and refined bottle service nightclub and lounge with emphasis on comfort and pleasure. It has a sophisticated and stylish atmosphere that offers the complete nightclub experience for guests 21 and older. It’s open Thursday – Sunday and it costs $30 per person to get in.
