The Venetian Set to Debut Mobile Gaming Devices

The new system is built into a handheld device and will start testing at the Las Vegas casino later this year. Games to be included on the system include poker, blackjack, roulette and slots. The gaming devices will also be available at the adjacent Palazzo Resort Hotel Casino when it opens next year.

Technology for this new gaming system was developed by Cantor Gaming, an affiliate of the global financial services company Cantor Fitzgerald, which has been the first company approved by the Nevada Gaming Commission as a manufacturer, distributor and operator of a mobile gaming technology.

"We continuously strive to provide our customers the best overall entertainment experience available and mobile gaming is the type of cutting edge trend we think will further enhance that experience for our customers," said Robert G. Goldstein, President of The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino. "Cantor Gaming literally created the market for mobile gaming, and we are pleased to partner with them to benefit from the evolution of gaming technology."

Cantor was a major advocate and sponsor of a Nevada legislature bill 471 that made this new gaming device possible. It was signed into law in June of 2005 by Governor Kenny Guinn.

Here’s how it works: When a casino player is interested in taking casino action off the floor for a virtual gaming experience, they’ll deposit money into an account, pick up a mobile gaming device – which can be anything from a PDA to a tablet PC – and have the opportunity to play in pre-approved “green zones.” Gaming devices are automatically disabled when they are outside of the pre-approved areas. Specific permitted gaming areas will be decided by the Nevada legislature. When the player is done, they return the device and can withdraw their balance.

The gaming machines also have the ability to act as a virtual concierge so players can make dining reservations, buy show tickets, order drinks, make an appointment at the spa, view their hotel bill and more.

According to Joseph Asher, managing director with Cantor Gaming, in an interview with Wired magazine, this new system will give players the chance to gamble where they otherwise could not.
"The surveys show that visitors spend an average of 3.5 hours of their days in Vegas gambling in the casino," said Asher. This will give them an opportunity to gamble when they’re otherwise not allowed to gamble."
