Life’s a Beach This Summer in AC
“The beach bars are one of the things that really make us a destination resort,” said Jeffrey S. Vasser, Executive Director of the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority. “These venues encourage people to go bar hopping on the beach and that’s what a vacation destination is all about.”Trump Plaza is once again trying to outdo its beach bar from the previous year and Steve Calabro, VP of Marketing for Trump Plaza promises a full slate of beachside entertainment, as well as food and drinks through Labor Day. Summer 2006 features the inaugural season of the Beach Bar Concert Series, which kicks off Memorial Day Weekend with a live set from the Beach Boys. On Sunday July 2, Eddie Money plays all night long while Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes play August 6. The Sugarhill Gang takes to the stage on Labor Day weekend.
“We have set the standard for a fun, upbeat, great place to go for the beach bar and we have the perfect beach in front of Trump Plaza,” said Calabro.
The beach bar opens at 11:30 am daily. It features a full menu with items like crab cakes, burgers, sushi, salads, sandwiches, pizzas and a raw bar with clams, oysters and shrimp. Daily drink specials abound including the Raw Bar Shooter, which is a choice of an oyster, clam or shrimp with cocktail sauce, lemon and Absolute Pepper vodka.
For its third incarnation this summer, Bally’s BiKini Beach Bar has upped the ante on both its food and music while giving the entire environment a decidedly Caribbean and Florida Keys feel. “From an experiential point of view, this beach bar has everything: Food, entertainment, service and proximity in the center of the Boardwalk. And it all comes together seamlessly,” said Michael Bowman, VP of F&B operations with Harrah’s Atlantic City operations. ‘
Now through Labor Day there’s live island flavored entertainment daily and rock and roll cover bands aping such New Jersey stars such as Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi every Friday and Saturday night until 2:00 am.
Opening at 11:30 am for the lunchtime crowd, the Bikini Bar’s full menu includes simple but upscale items such as jerk chicken wraps, fresh seafood sandwiches, shrimp salads and plantain chips.
Bowman said Friday night happy hours will be events not to be missed, so be sure to get there early enough to grab a stool at the bar or a table with a great ocean view.
Up on the northern part of the Boardwalk, the Hilton Beach Bar’s menu features a variety of choices including fresh fruit, shrimp, salads, sandwiches and wraps, along with refreshing drinks such as Man Overboard, Coco Nutts, Midnight Pass, South Beach, and Coco Rhuuuumba. Live entertainment is featured from 2:00 pm until 10:00 pm all summer long.
If you want to spend time on the beach, many of the resorts have gear rental available. Each of Harrah’s properties (Caesars, Bally’s, Showboat) have beachfront cabana rentals while the Atlantic City Hilton offers beach chairs, umbrellas, hammocks and towels as well as cabanas for its guests. Non-hotel guests can rent them depending on availability.
Trump Plaza also offers umbrella rentals, chairs, cabanas, mini cabanas and all beach supplies. Between the beach, its bars and equipment rental, staying outdoors all summer is a sure bet.
