Online gambling for basketball to soar this month
By Gene Koprowski
Online gambling for March
Madness already exceeds the Las Vegas take of $100 million, according
to casino representatives.
Web sites are expecting this year's college basketball tournament-related traffic to be double last year's. That's good for the online business. CBS Sports is reporting that online video is soaring too. The broadcaster owns the Internet rights to March Madness, and it expects online video revenues to increase 20% this year to $30 million. If the company can make extra money from online video while keeping its TV revenues steady, its not-very-lucrative rights contract could yet turn into a business winner. Online revenue grows whilst TV ad sales continue to decline. Last year's NCAA basketball tournament averaged 10% fewer TV viewers than 2004's, according to Nielsen. Business and sports dynasties can keep going longer than expected, and rising newcomers need time to season. But if online video and gambling do well in this tournament, that may point to lucrative years ahead for Internet gaming operators. © Copyright 2009 Online Casino Crawler This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed. |
