Committee members said the plan for new "racinos" can clear the panel, but its fate is uncertain in the full state Senate, where key senators remain on the fence.

The New Hampshire Senate Finance Committee is planning to vote this week to recommend legalizing slot machines at the state's racetracks.

The new funds will bolster the state's budget, experts predict.

There is also uncertainty over whether the bill will pass the state House of Representatives.

Gov. John Lynch is also another wild-card -- as his stance is unknown.

"I just hope and pray that my economic stimulus-job creation package resonates," said Sen. Lou D'Allesandro, a fierce gambling supporter who chairs the Senate Finance Committee.

The Senator forecasts that the panel, which will start voting on its version of the 2010-2011 budgets on Tuesday, will back expanded gambling.
Supporters of expanded gambling mounted a wide-ranging campaign in New Hampshire this year, hiring top lobbyists and spokesmen and winning the support of many of the state labor unions.
