Pick U.S. Senate Winners, Losers Online Now
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) -- the arch-foe of online gambling -- is retiring, and his seat, along with 32 others, is up for election this Nov. 7 in the U.S. Senate elections. Now, rather than just making an office pool, like the Toby Ziegler character did on TV\'s "The West Wing," and wagering on who will win, and who will lose, you can place bets online to pick your favorite, or least favorite, poll. Bodog.com this week posted odds on all 33 U.S. Senate seats, and is the first online entertainment company to offer odds on all the races, at http://www.bodog.com/sports-betting/political-props.jsp
New Polling Method
The reason is simple -- a customer must wager his hard-earned money on the outcome of an event, making the end results just as accurate, if not more accurate, than "traditional" polling, said Ayre. "After all, when money is on the line customers are more likely to bet with their heads than their hearts," added Ayre.
The 2006 U.S. Senate elections feature a number of tight races, as well as a few potential easy wins. Some of the races worth keeping an eye on, according to Ayre, include:
The November 7th, 2006 senate election for the state of Missouri, featuring Claire McCaskill (D), and Jim Talent (R).
According to Bodog.com, Claire McCaskill is the slight favorite in Missouri with odds of 9/16, while Jim Talent maintains a close second at 2/3.
Another Senate election to watch is in the state of New Jersey, pitting Robert Mendez (D), versus Thomas Kean Jr. (R), said Bodog.com.
According to Bodog.com, this is one of the tighter races of the election, and Mendez has maintained a small lead in New Jersey with odds of 7/13, whilst Thomas Kean Jr. is close at 2/3.
"The tight races are always the most entertaining and unpredictable, but not necessarily the best for betting," said Ayre.
Some Predictability
There are some predictible races, to be sure, according to Bodog.com. The Senate election for the state of Maine, features incumbent Olympia Snowe (R), against Jean Hay Bright (D).
"This is one of the most one-sided races of the election has Olympia Snowe favored in Maine at odds of 1/9. Competitor Jean Hay Bright is a long shot at 7/3," said Ayre.
Another close race is in the state of New Mexico, where incumbent Jeff Bingaman (D) faces Allen McCulloch (R).
"New Mexico is another state with the potential for blow out results, as Jeff Bingaman is way out in front with odds of 1/9, while Allen McCulloch is trailing far behind at 7/3," said Ayre.
