I go to Mass every morning and pray for the things I want and also to thank God for the things I have: parents who gave me everything, spared nothing and made my life, along with my brother and sister, Heaven on Earth. I thank Him for two beautiful daughters who are my life and for all the good things I have.

But then I ask Him for the 5 things I just listed. One snowy day, when there was nobody left in Church, God appeared before me and said that He wanted to rant my wishes.

He told me there was a little problem with one of them as there was only so much He could do. He told me to write on a piece of paper the one wish I wanted more than anything, and if that was the one of the five that He could plausibly grant me, then He would give me all five.

Quickly, I wrote down the most important one and laid the paper face down in the pew. Then He spoke to me about the five things I wished for a few paragraphs back:

(1) Miss World is right now on her way to your house.

(2) As we speak, they are pulling your lottery number out of the cylinder.

(3) You'll be on the mound in the World Series this October.

(4) Your contract will net you $5,000,000 each year.

(5) I'm having a little trouble with #5.

He turned over my slip of paper and there was #5, "please let me pick 70% winners in sports this year."

He looked at me and in all his Godliness, I saw a tear well up in His left eye. He was embarrassed and it showed. I could feel his uncomfortably, his uneasiness.

Finally, He regained His composure and spoke, "Holy Moses, man. I may be God and be able to do the impossible, but you have given me a request that even an immortal cannot accomplish. Who the heck do you think I am? Nobody can pick 70% winners. There is absolutely no way I can grant your wish."

And He was gone.

You ask about Reality. Well, the Reality of it is that picking more than 60% is beyond anyone's wildest dreams. Even you know who!!

I had a better shot at getting #1. Now that's more like Reality.
